just read of yet another member who experienced a fire under their tank.
For $10 , INSTALL A SMOKE ALARM ABOVE OUTLET TO YOUR SYSTEM.

If nothing else, it’s an early warning to s potential disaster especially as we know: Salt and Electricity DO NOT MIX !! A leak or short always starts with smoke
 
GFCI may help prevent the fire to start with, and definitely can help you from being shocked.
 
That is a great idea , Not like they cost a whole lot either ! I found/smelled a smoking power strip once. Scared the Bageeba's out of me !

In one of the cases, GFCI did not trip and many as you can imagine do not have GFCI installed at tank. For this- smoke detector next best bet
