Sailfin Tang Quarantine Time.

R2R was founded on the simple premise to develop a warm, friendly, suitable place to gather and discuss this hobby for people of all ages, backgrounds, and experience levels. The “Be Nice” policy is something we take very seriously. This can be especially challenging when we perceive trolling activity - please work to separate the problem from the people and focus on addressing the problem.

We highly encourage healthy debate here and understand not everyone will agree on all issues. In fact, we value healthy and even lively discussion of hobby issues and questions...this actually leads to advancements in our hobby, so we ALL win through these debates. What we will not tolerate is the negativity, name calling, belittling attitude towards other members or the topics being discussed. We are not asking you to cease debating your positions. What we are asking is that you do so in a healthy, respectful manner.

Whelp so much for helpful advice. Thread took a bad turn and I am partly responsible for it. Yes learning a proper QT takes time and everyone has their own method. Wish you continued luck on your reefing.
not your fault at all. good question and check out the top right corner and just search qt if you are looking for some other methods/regiments that people use if yours ends up not working as intended or if you want to try something different for the next addition!

Not sure if I want to let you off that easy professor. Please tell everyone in your experiance why copper is good for healthy fish and why healthy subjects should be exposed to nasty chemicals. Is it just to make sure? Or is it the fact that lady's be scared these days? Either way show me how im ignorant.

hedgedrew who has argueably the most impressive private system in the world follows humblefish's qt (last i checked) on every fish he brings in regardless if they are showing sickness

Chemo is not good for humans either. And yet it’s used around the world on a daily basis for cancer. It’s thought you be there lesser of two evils, the other evil being death. Every mediation will have some degree of side effect. The key to medicated quarantine is that the benefits outweigh the draw backs.

The OP will have to make his/her own choice. But in my experience, it is very unwise to not medicate quarantine.

Ok so lets give every baby chemo at birth, just to possibly prevent cancer. It doesnt work that way slim although in you noggin it might. I tried to use every little met to get you littles to understand the problems with treating fish with cems and no one can understand. Oh well keep your fish and coral in poison. Just dont knock our heads off a year from now with " MY FISH DIED FOR NO REASON"

Bruh Andrew Sandler runs every single fish through rounds and rounds of meds and it clearly has worked out. Cancer =/= non visible but transmissible parasites

You are making the most extreme human examples and a very belittling approach. If you are fortunate enough to have a LFS that quarantines new arrivals that is great. All but one within a 3 hour drive from where I live receive their shipments and put them directly into their tanks to sell. I personally have been using observational QT with cycled tanks from 10-a 110 gallon system. Then I have the ability to treat if something shows up.
20 years ago when I was learning the mode was to put a sponge filter in a 10 gallon that had been in the sump for bacteria/cycle. Was such a pain that I just started going straight to the DT. When I got back into it a little over a year ago I started with that approach. Three bouts of velvet and around $1500 in fish brought me into the QT only pack. Copper May or may not cause issues to fish, with some like eels and lions that are much less tolerant. That being said the resident fish Dr on R2R who has had a long career in professional aquariums strongly recommends a medicated QT for parasites and infections. Unlike our children, our fish cannot tell us they don’t feel well.
Hopefully you never experience these types of losses.
Your method, no matter how humane you see it, can equally cause suffering and death in your fish. And if you are buying from a fish supplier who QT’s they are being medicated before you buy.

There are numerous wholesalers as well as retailers who pride themselves on selling only responsibly sourced specimens who they then keep in an observation quarantine without treating with any chemicals unless absolutely necessary. My analogy although extreme or belittling in your eyes was a simpleton approach to possibly open some eyes on how you don't have to do what everyone else does just because. The best treatment for a healthy fish is a healthy environment not a chemical bath.
Although a lot of times more costly I prefer to purchase from retailers who will stand by their inventory being healthy. Knock on wood not a sick fish in 20 years.
