Sailfin tang vs blue tang help!!!

Hey Guys so I want to get a sailfin tang but idk I am also thinking about a blue tang but am I always going to deal with ich with the blue tang? I will be QT either fish I just want to get a tang in my tank 90 gallon I just don’t know which one?!?!?!

Probably not the answer you want but IMO both of those fish get too large for a 90.

I have both in my 180. My sailfin is really getting large. 90 gallon i think is go small .mine is about 8 inches and when he open up his fins he is huge. Blue tang is smaller. tried to send video but its to large to send.

Nice the one I’m looking to purchase is pretty small maybe 4inches so I think it has a bit of time before it outgrows the tank what do you think? Btw what’s your experience with the sailfin

I would definitely not get a sailfin, they get too big and really fast.

A blue tang could work but depending on what other fish you have in your tank could cause the fish to stress out due to lack of space. Ich should not be any worries as long as the tang is healthy and isn’t stressed a lot.

Thanks I would definitely prefer a blue tang just because it has more color...sailfin has cool patterns too! My only worry for the blue tang is dealing with ich which I know they can get it a lot and pretty bad also I only have 2 clownfish and 1 fox face at the moment

If that’s what you have so far you should be fine. Just make sure to have stable water, good feeding, and good swimming room. If you have all of those you should be fine.

I would personally not add anymore fish after that unless a goby or something small.

You will probably get attacked by the tang police but i’ve seen blue tangs kept in 60g cubes.

Yea I agree with you...the only other fish I was thinking of adding as well was a wrasse for sure maybe a yellow coris...I think that would be okay having to many fish can just cause problems

Like i said you can do it but you could possibly run into stress problems.

You could always have a yellow/purple tang with a tomini or yellow or blue kole eye tang instead

i love mine but i hate the thought of trading him in he grew pretty fast. even in my 180 i feel he now needs a bigger tank. they can get up to almost 16 inches

they definitely swim a lot, like i said you can keep them in a 90g but you could run into stress problems. I would not keep a blue tang in a 90g for more than 1-2yrs

keep in mind not to add any fish while you have ich. it runs in cycles and all your fish will get it. the parasite has 3 developmental stages. and can kill fish. after it falls off your fish ich swims in your tank for up to 18 hours then attaches its self to something else like glass or rocks and incubation for up to 72 days then once released the cycle starts all over again and attaches its self to another host. i would not buy anymore fish till you get rid of the ich please read up on the cycle of this parasite its deadly .

Your sailfin is beautiful!!! I do have mine in a 65 gallon right now but she will be rehomed to a 400 when he outgrows mine...she's small right now and loves her tank mates!!!

Blue and yellow in a 65g.
Ok for about 3 years.
Both now in a 180g
At about 3 1/2 years, need a larger tank, so now 180g

I had a blue tang in a 180 and with maybe 6 other much smaller fish. He was fine with the fish that were in there before him but about 6 months after I got him he became a murder. Would kill any other fish I put in the tank regardless of type.
that was my experience.
