Hi all.

Couple Questions:

1) what's the most reliable alk testing kit.
I plan to use API daily with cross checks with Salifert weekly. Currently they both read equally.

Is red sea, hanna easy to use?

2) for Salifert , at which point do you stop adding the drops, which color to note the dkh value?

Is this pic correct, i check where i put a red arrow...

3) also color gets dark when i touch the white background i use...i guess i shouldn't touch the background right

Thx

Hanna is 100000000% the best and easiest..
Why question which tint of blue? Press a button, add tank water wait 2 seconds. Add alk solution invert vial 3-5 times, press button wait 2 seconds.. BINGOOOOO: 8.6

It’s so simple, I run it daily.
Honestly, if you take this hobby serious there is no reason you should purchase anything else.

I’ve always gone with one to the right as well. Just about the point where your eye starts seeing it as pinkish purple rather than purpleish blue. At the end of the day it doesn’t matter all that much. It’s probably more important that you’re just consistent with where you stop each time.

Ever done hanna alk twice in succession?
I've heard it's off by 1 unit... ever experienced that? Thx

I use hanna phosphorus... it's great.

Btw does hanna ever go bad meaning it needs calibration e.t.c?

Btw is this what i need to buy, there's a HI775 too that's why

Thats the one I have.
I haven’t ran the test Back to back but I do it every night around 730 and it’s pretty consistent..

ive read about calibration but personally never done it. Maybe someone will chime in

Yesterday I ran the test in the morning while mixing some new salt water since I test and dose my new salt water figured I’d run the tank test too but usually around 730

lol

Maybe you want to know if it is accurate, not just easy?

It is cheap and easy to do a DIY titration without any color issues and with assurance that it is accurate. :)

Many times, several tests back to back.
Variances never greater than 10ppm and usually less than 5ppm.
I believe step one is the zero calibration, use mine every two days for 3 years now.
Great tool.

The Phosphorous checker is also very nice for the hobby.
Never greater than 10ppb variance, and again, usually less than 5ppb (and that’s billion man)

Are they accurate.....who knows but they seem to display “expected” numbers consistently and corals look great so whether it’s 8.0, 8.5, 9.0........it’s the stability that counts.

You’re reading and look for trends.. 8.5 (give or take 5%) consistently in that range or deal with light blue.. slightly blue... purpleish blue... maybe blueberry blue.... kinda looks purple... (I think u catch my drift)

I just tested all 3 kits at the same time.
Api was 8 .5 alk dkh, Salifert 9.5
And
Hanna alk dkh i received today, measured 8.6 dkh.

What's confusing is that the syringe for hanna seems to be labelled in reverse..
As I'm sucking into it shouldn't the values increase from 0.1, 0 2.....all the way to 1 ml?

Where should i stop to measure 1ml exactly? See pic thx
