Salifert ammonia test kit for freshwater?

Man i hate to pay another 15 dollars to test ammonia for a few days in my sons new freshwater aquarium. Can I use my salifert ammonia test kit for freshwater?

I doubt it, why not just take a sample to your LFS, it’ll either be free or a couple of $$

My Lfs is about an hour and 15 minutes away. Wish they were closer because they are great.

If you really don’t want to spend the money, can you not add 3.65g of salt to 96.35g a of water and then test? You will need 0.01g scales though or 35g of salt to 1 litre may be better.

Thats a good idea but I dont have the equipment to be that precise.

do you have measuring spoons? And a litre bottle of pop or something, I’m not sure it needs to be that accurate?

The NH4 Profi Test kit can be used for both fresh and saltwater, although I'm not sure about free vs total readings. I don't have a kit anymore to read the instructions.
Not sure about the NH3 kit, or the Ammonia kit

can’t see why not…do two side by side tests to check, one with ammonia in the water and one without.
Have to say though, I found Salifert ammonia test kits terrible, so even if it does work the results may not be easy to read as the colour change on that test is hard to read.
