Hi. This test kit asks you to draw up the reactant in a 1cc syringe. There is an air pocket between the plunger (drawn to 1.0 per the instructions) and the fluid due to the pink tip that is added to the 1cc syringe. I understand this is normal as stated in the instructions.....BUT I want to be sure how much of an air pocket is normal. The instructions include a pictorial that shows the fluid line at 0.95 (a very small pocket) but for me, or for my kit, the fluid line ALWAYS hits 0.85. I would love to hear what experience others have had.

Naturally, this greatly impacts the result.

Thanks!

i just tried it and it came to 0.83 for me. for what it's worth.

Around 1.5 is about normal for me. As long as its always the same, is really what counts.

as long as the plunger is at 1ml, then it's 1ml of reagent. Pink tips may vary so where the fluid goes up to will vary

Drawing the plunger back slowly helps reduce air. Where the fluid is at in the syringe does not matter, just where the bottom of the black boot is

There was an awesome video series on YouTube by billy pipes I think and he goes over all the salifert tests. He said he spoke with someone from salifert and that the bottom of the plunger at the 1 will optimally see the actual level in the syringe at 8.5. I’ve done this for the last two years and if anything it’s about consistency.

I have a new Salifert magnesium test and they are only two part liquid no powder this time and the Instructions of how to check it. Is this is real or is a new version my reading is about 1280.
