Salifert Magnesium test readings

Since i am facing the same situation with Salifert Mg kit, I did add up 1500ppm(1st reading) with 285ppm(2nd reading). Now, do I have to find the mean value of the total(1785ppm)? If so, my Mg ends up being 892.5ppm.

{My Salifert Ca= 445ppm
&
Salifert Alk= 7.15dKH
&
Salinity=30ppt(Aquaforest sea salt}

With reference to the previous post should I say that my Magnesium is at 892.5 ppm(mean value of the total Mg reading resulting from the second dripping of the triton fluid due to delay in colour change) or 1785 ppm (adding up 1500 ppm with 285 ppm)??? Any kind views???

I believe you would want to say it is 1785 ppm. That number is based on how much titrate you had to use, which is your general (not exact) indicator of the Mg levels in your sample. You don't want to take the mean value of the two. Just the total. ;)

I use the same kit. I was using the red sea test kit for about the first 5 months of testing and kept getting readings in the 1500 to 1700 range despite not dosing Mg and my salt supposedly having a Mg level of about 1380. It was suggested that I try the Sailfert kit. First time I used it I got a reading of 1360. Put a smile on my face as I wanted to have good test readings. The past several weeks I have started to get high readings again with the Sailfert kit. My readings have been 1480, 1500, etc. and I still do not dose Mg. Not sure if this test kit is just no as accurate any more, or if I really have a build up of Mg. My Ca has also been really high 500+ and Alk dropping as low as 6.5 from 8.3. I do dose Kalk. Keeps it interesting!

Thankyou all. My doubt stand cleared.
As for Alk, which is 7.5 dkh with me (cal 445ppm), I need to raise it and keep it at about 8-9. I have Nano codes from Brightwell for dosing.
As for Salifert Mg kit's reliability, I have no idea. The big guns could chime in on it.
