Does anyone know if the saltwater kits for these work with freshwater?

I know the API test kit is the exact same for freshwater and saltwater. Im not sure about the salifert. But this is a good question, ide give it a shot. I will do the same when i start my 150 freshwater.

I expect it's just the colour cards that are different. You could always add a little salt to the sample though (about 3.5% would be nice :) )

I ended up just getting some sera tests for my new planted tank but I'll compare the two just for fun to see.

I don't really know the uptake rate of nitrogen sources and phosphate in a planted tank so I want to make sure I am not over of under feeding.
depending on water volume and # of plants, you should not be too high. I ran my mixed cichlid 150 @ 150ppm no3 a long while without issue.

From my 10+ year experience in FW ammonia is a bigger concern along with chlorine and chloramine.
