Salifert nitrate cycle issues

I’m cycling my tank and my ammonia never exceeded 3 ppm which is high Ik but oh well but I’ve done 2 25% water changes and a 50% water change and my salifert nitrate test kit has told me it’s at 100 ppm over a span of a dozen tests over the days. I have also tested my rodi water which is reading 0 ppm

If you did 100% water change over a week, it would reduce nitrate or test kit is incorrect.

What is the nitrite level? A small amount of nitrite can show up as a large amount of nitrate.

I don’t test for nitrites bc 1 ppm ammonia equals 3.6 nitrate so I shouldn’t have exceeded 10

Just ran to the local pet store all they have is api and it gave me a reading of 20 which is still absurdly high but ammonias gone so it’s ready for fish at least

Nitrite is likely present.
