People used to put hydrometers in their tanks and sumps.

I don't believe they do exist. You can get stand alone salinity probes if you want. I don't think it's possible to do something in badge form given how salinity is typically measured.

Any time, FWIW Salinity probes are standard on basically every aquarium controller you can get. One stand alone probe will probably land in the $2-300 range. Which is still roughly 25% of a controller (Here in Canada anyway) but it might still be worth looking into just stepping into a controller for all the extra features they offer.

If you looking for continues salinity reading get one of the pinpoint salinity probs. I use one on my mixing station, solid and easy to calibrate.

I was hoping for like a $15 badge. The system is still fairly new so there’s not much room to play in the budget. I’ll be looking into a controller eventually though. Thx

Yes unfortunately the probes are a little more than that. However you can usually get a refractometer if you don't already have one that is for about $50. They are very easy to use and with a little calibration fluid every month orso, really accurate.

I have salinity meters but was looking for a constant way to monitor my system. I’ve got a new tank and I can’t get the ATO to work so I was hoping for an inexpensive continuous monitoring devise.

The only way I know is probs.. salinity probs.

What ATO do you have? And the Pinpoint meter mentioned above is $155 so a little better but still not 15...

To the OP, She had mentioned she was having issues with her ATO and that's why she was looking for a salinity monitor

Gotta love those float valves. I would suggest instead of looking for a better way to monitor salinity. Save up for a Quality ATO like the Tunze 3155 Absolutely worth every penny

I may just do that. The valve works just fine but the tank design just doesn’t work w it.

LOL, now THAT brings back memories. A bit twitchy (and at the mercy of an inherently inaccurate tool) but worked OK.
