Hey guys, I have a Fluval Evo 13.5

I’ve been having issues with the salinity for the past few weeks.
It was at 1.030 and I poured too much water brought it down to 1.027 in one day... so my corals are going through a bit of a hard time right now after the shock. they’re slowly getting better.

my salinity is back up to 1.029. I know I’m not supposed to lower the salinity that fast but also I’m not sure how much RODI water to put in per day for it to not shock my corals?

please help!

I would do a small water changer like a 1/4 of a gallon and refill only with ro water until desired salinity. Not sure if you have one or not but an ATO would be great having one especially with your size tank.

I'd replace 1% of the tank volume daily.

Fill your tanks return compartment water level to where you want it and make sure salinity is where you want it too.
Mark a line (colored tape, sharpie) on the chamber (hopefully clear glass)
So you can see this is your tanks FULL level.
If you refill to that line everytime with your top off water your salinity will not change.

You just need to establish where the full mark should be :)

Why is your salinity increasing? Are you topping your tank off with saltwater? You should be adding RO water to replace evaporatored water.
Use an ATO or mark a line for a manual process as saltyreef said.
Slow and steady will get your salinity in line. Good luck.

Everything you do with water Must be Gradually- not instantaneous.
I question the gage you are using to test salinity. What Are you using to test ?
I would recommend taking a water sample to a trusted LFS and have them check for you for verification.

1.030 to 1.027 you can explain by adding too much water. But why is it back up to 1.029 now? Did you let it evaporate without topping it off for awhile?

i use a refractometer. Was well calibrated.

Seems like youre accurately measuring just having a hard time how much to top off.
The full mark line will fix your problem :)

Refill to that line everytime.

You can also scoop out 2 quarts of tank water and replace with two quarts of RO water adding it to the sump

IF YOU HAD TO TAKE A REEFING EXAM, WOULD YOU PASS?
