Okay, and Im using the reef crystals so I dont have to use additives. To replenish the good stuff that dissapates. Apperantly the more expensive salt (meaning the the more expensive of the two) helps to keep it in the water or something. Anyways, the one marine biologist has reef tanks, so I'm sure he in paticular knew what he was talking about.

If your marine biologist is such an expert then why are you asking us? Appearently you just want to hear the same stuff repeated. Reef crystal is exactly that for a reef. The extra additives arnt needed for a fish only system. There's a big difference between marine biologist and marine aquarist. Same as theres a huge difference in how corals live in the ocean as oppose to the aquarium. We spend lots of time and effort researching and discussing best ways to keep animals alive in the aquarium that most marine biologist simply don't have the time to do. Mostly its ego they think they know better. Does your friends reef even have any sps? Much less being full of acros and such? Just saying there's a big difference so please stop throwing your marine biologist friend out like we are impressed. We are just trying to help you.

Using reef crystals will replenish calcium, alk, mg. if you're not doing corals then my guess is no replenishment needed seeing those things will not be used up. Not sure but assuming if adding those things continually without corals using them up will raise those levels over time and become over saturated. Make sure you test regularly!

you r soooo too anti marine biologist lol u just wont admit it lol and idk what im replenishing, theres additives that are good for the fish that I was told reef crystals would help to keep in the water that comes from the salt. idk
If you are doing a fowlr tank than the regular instant ocean will provide what is needed in your system. As was mentioned by Loki you can find this on Dr foster and smith for a better price than what you will be able to find locally. The 200gal box of IO if I remember correctly off the top of my head is around $40 to qualify for the free shipping the order needs to be over $49 which is easy to achieve by adding a couple more items to the order such as fish food. Also since you live in Wisconsin you might be close enough to be able to drive to Dr Foster and Smiths to get your salt and than you would not need to worry about shipping.
