Salinity Levels

My tank is cycling. It is a 29 gal long tank. I made one mistake when adding my water. I didn’t mix my salt with my water before adding so my salinity levels have been hard to level out. Should I restart lol? My tank has evaporated a bit. I was thinking of topping it off with tap water and mixing it well.
I just bought a wave maker so hopefully that will help cycle things better. #s#struggling

Tap water is a no no for a reef tank. Can you walk us through what you did? You may be better off draining, mixing a fresh batch of saltwater and starting over.

Bigtime +1 to no tap water. Ever. CFM has a good point. It's only 29g. Start over. It'll be quicker.

I agree with @crazyfishmom, drain the tank and add new water with premixed water.

I think you need to rethink the entire approach TBH, fact your talking about topping off with tap water suggests to me that you've not researched this enough.

OP I agree with others here empty the tank and start over.

What I did was put the rocks in hot boiling water for 24 to 48 hours and then let it dry for another 48 hours in sun. Cleaned my entire tank with vinegar/water mix inside and let it dry as well for 72 hours.

Once all done, I added pre-made Saltwater at 1.025 Salinity in the tank with live sand and rocks and let the cycle go for 6 to 8 weeks before introducing any live species.

Agree with some above comments that more research might be needed...... We don't use tap water, I don't see much rock in your tank, and I'm wondering what kind of filter is on this tank.... I just see a few things that need correction or the experience might be more challenging than it needs to be.

No, do not boil rocks, it's dangerous to your health and could be dangerous to others living under your roof.

Are you on a well? Or city water?

Some have well water, like mine, that is less than 50tds. If that is the case, don't drain, just buy a rodi unit and use that for now on.

If city, I agree with the others. Buy a unit, refill. There could be so much crap in there that will give you problems later.
