Salinity measuring units

Just reading a study on cheato, and salinity is listed as 0 to 90.0:

"Chaetomorpha sp. was found in salinities of 3.4–90.0"

Can these be ppt? Just wondering if a salinty of 90ppt is even possible (but could be in some 'pond' situation with plenty of heat)?

Chaetomorpha is truly euryhaline and is found in the wild in specific gravity from 1.002 to 1.069 (almost three times the salinity of the ocean!). Anecdotal evidence suggests that Chaeto may even do well in freshwater conditions.

Seems it will survive in freshwater, and grow slowly at very low salinity and low temperatures:

It's not possible to get clean cheato here, and was wondering if freshwater could be used to get rid of pests, without harming the cheato.
Seems I can even quaranteen it in freshwater.
