I had planned to move my tailspot from QT to DT...noticed that the QT salinity was down to 1.021 as opposed to 1.025 in QT and about the same in the fresh salt water...no good...I think that my ato has a problem, but I unplugged it yesterday...I've been taking out cups of DT water and adding cups of fsw...I've done this about 4 times but not seeing any appreciable change...how could this be?...I checked the refractometer with a floating salinity measurer, about the same...I'm worried about my corals and fish...also worried about moving salinity too fast although that doesn't seem to be happening...Any answers, any advise?...getting kind of desperate!

do what your doing, slow dont get desperate. double check the test results.
Ive made larger swings in my tanks faster. (accidents) with no ill results.

Salty film...would 8oz in and out...into the sump...at about .030...a couple of times/hour be OK...of course keep measuring...

You did not specify how big the QT and DT are. The larger the tank, the lower the impact of your change. I'm also confused about what you are doing. Do you have a DT, QT AND a fsw reservoir? If so, what is the salinity of each, which one are you drawing from and which one(s) are you adding the drawn water to?

yea prob so. I dont know your overall water volume.
Ive had some issues that also after my water change it "swung" back to normal more but again, no ill effects to the system.
IMO that small a difference is Very minor.
Duke is on the nose too, just drip acclimate.

My skimmer overflowed overnight causing my salinity to drop to 1.020. It took me 2 weeks to get it back to 1.025 through evaporation.

FWIW, yes Im that guy. My 2 tanks had different salinity so I tossed coral from each into the other no acclimation:eek:.
