I had a discussion with my LFS and he runs his tanks at 1.0108 claims this better for parasite control. I said he just doesn't want to spend money on salt mix. I run my DT the same as our oceans which 35PPT or 1.0206. So I would like to know what you all are keeping your tanks at and you can add if you like a description of why. Thanks in advance.

Many shops run their tanks at a lower salinity; oxygen content is another reason. Most people with reefs, have it considerably higher (35ppt).

Yep, lfs, public aquariums run their fish systems at a lower salinity. Helps with parasite control, oxygenation, and lower salt costs. However, you cannot keep a reef or any tank with inverts in it at a lower salinity for long. They will not survive. I keep my reefs at 1.025 specific gravity.

He is right, the lower salinity for fish only tank does help with parasite control. However, for a reef tank the range you want is 1.025 or 1.026 specific gravity.

1.025. That is what both LFS within in a 5 mile radius of my house run and that is generally considered to be the sweet spot between fish and corals.

My tank is 1.025 then when water evaporate might hit 1.026 then I fill up the sump and back we go. I have definitely heard of LFS keep lower salinity to control parasites. The owner of my LFS just told me recently except coral tank the fish only tank are at 1.014
