Hello. I’m considering raising my salinity in my tank. I thinking Im keeping it to low. I keep it around 1.022 and 1.023. I have fish, sps, lps(a couple) and majority softies. What do you find is an good salinity range for you fish/coral combo? What is the max for fish?

You'll likely find that most people like 1.024 - 1.026 and will often swear by the way they do it, but most evidence suggests that anywhere from about 1.022 - 1.028 will work just fine. There is some anecdotal evidence that certain coral won't respond as well to low number likes 1.022 or 1.023 and some others don't like the higher end of the range, but I'm not convinced there's much actual evidence of this beyond personal opinion. Like most things with these tanks the number you choose being consistent is far more important that which number you choose in that range.

My question to you would be, why do you think you're keeping it too low? Are you having trouble with certain corals?

I keep mine at 1.025 stable. I have a lot of LPS, fish, 4 RBT nems, and a large blue carpet nem.

Just to follow up on this, I helped a friend break down his 90G cube today. Very healthy growing softies, LPS, and SPS. His salinity was 1.031. I would not keep my tank at that, but he had a ton of success.

Thanks for the response. I was talking to someone yesterday with more experience than I and they suggested I raise my salinity levels. The tank is two years old and I’ve not realized very much growth in my lps and only a little in my sps. They suggested if I raise my levels my coral growth might improve. Before I did so I wanted to see what others thought.
