My readings is at 1.020 for about a day and half, trying to raise it but still at 1.020! Have Corals and Shrimp. Calibrated the Refrac with Distilled water and still no changes. Let's say I need at Calibrating solution OR I have a defective Refrac but it should still atleast raise the readings, correct? Is my Salinity really at 1.020? The amount of Salt mix I put in there I think I can make a Brine! Any input is really appreciated.

From what I've heard it isn't a good idea to calibrate with freshwater (I've never bothered to try myself).

You're best bet right now is getting over to and LFS or reef buddy with your refractometer and a water sample.

You should use the calibration solution in order to make adjustments, not RO water.
But what size tank are we trying to get the SG up in?

I get that Calibrating solution is what I need to get a "accurate" reading but it seems that it is "stuck" at 1.020.
LFS near me uses a Hydrometer.

Sounds like something is up with the refractmeter.
I would get your water tested elsewhere before making any further changes.

Also I would highly recommend purchasing some calibration standard for the future.
It is only a few dollars and will be far more accurate.

Hopefully your LFS carries this on hand.
I am surprised how many don't.

Edit: what is confusing is a refractmeter getting stuck at a certain level.
It is light shining through a prism with no moving parts so not sure how it can get stuck like that but I am far from an expert on these things.

Yes, maybe you are just underestimating the amount of salt needed.

Also, it would be better to raise salinity by topping off for evaporation with salt water rather than adding dry salt.

LFS does not carry Calibrating solution and may take couple days to get it delivered
if I get it online.
I will make my salt mix, mix a little longer. Maybe I am rushing into this readings.
I hope my Cleaner shrimp & Corals can handle this low Salinity until I get atleast to 1.024.
