How is everyone checking the salinity of their tanks..hydrometer or refractometer? If you use both methods, which do you like better?

While I have used both of those, I prefer using conductivity to measure salinity.

A good conductivity probe can read in real time (such as during acclimation) and also can do things the others cannot, such as measuring limewater potency. :)

Charged ions are a good thing to know about in the limewater. You provide some excellent reading and knowledge on your reefkeeping page.

I just bought a Milwaukee digital and would buy another if I needed. Great purchase.

Is there that much difference in a refractor calibrated for saltwater versus using conductivity to measure salinity? If so what Instrument would you recommend Randy? Does salinity have to be that precise?

Hi,
How you can see limewater potency from conductivity probe? I'm thinking to change the Refractometer to Conductivity method, and probably that will be a point to.

Best thing I have owned. BRS has it on sale $83 regular $120.
