I have never had to do anything with my salt. but I have heard it is best to roll the salt bucket or mix the salt before adding it to the water. is this what I should be doing? cause I imagine if the salt has been on the shelf for a while or a week or 2 without a wc it needs to be mixed to be sure i get the right consistency when I add it to water?

I try to do my best to stir or shake the salt before I add it to water to make it more consistent. Not sure if it makes a huge difference but it doesn't hurt

First I’ve heard of that. I don’t imagine there’s anything in it that can separate and if there was, how would it. I’m curious to see what others say

I haven't been doing that. I have noticed that my alk, ca and mg is lower than what live aquaria reef mix says it should be.
alk 7.7
ca is 420
and mg 1200.

i'll try shaking it, stirring it our just throw the bucket on its side and roll it around on the concrete floor in the basement.

One time I forgot to put the lid back on my salt bucket, so the next time I went to mix saltwater the top layer of salt had hardened into a crusty chunk from the humidity. I had to break up the lumps and stir the salt to make it consistent again.

Other than that situation, I can't think of any reason to need to shake, roll, or stir the bucket.

I can't imagine anything separating out from the salt mixture that requires remixing. I have a feeling the "rolling around" of the buckets is to break up any chunks that might have formed.
