I currently have a mix reef 46g(60"x15"x12") sump less.
I've been using reef crystals for quite a while with no issues but I've been thinking of switching to something that's more better. What would be a great salt brand to use? Something that I won't have to dose while doing weekly water changes? Or should I say, what salt comes with high trace elements?

I would just stick with the RC. As you add more and more corals to the tank water changes alone probably won't be able to keep up with the demand of calcium/magnesium no matter what kind of salt your using so you'll have to dose. Once you start dosing though, then all the salt mixes become one in the same IMO. GL.

I do not know of any brand that I'd say is demonstrably better than RC. High trace elements is not a plus, IMO. Matching natural seawater is a plus. (FWIW, calcium, alkalinity and magnesium are not trace elements, if you mean those; trace elements are very low level things like iron and copper)

I use regular IO because I don't prefer some of the components in RC, such as the metal chelators and vitamins.

Well said Randy.
To me salt is salt. What you use is dependant on how you maintain the tank.
There is no easy out. :-)

Instant Ocean, sps dominated tank.

Used coral pro for a while and just could never get my tank parameters consistent. I switched to reef crystals and things just started to measure correctly and consistently.

I guess I'll just stick with rC a little longer and see how it keeps going cause like I said no issues yet.

Anyone heard about Aquacraft salt? Randy?

I don't know much about their current salt, but they have a long history of pushing an ancient and misleading salt study called the S-15 report (which they still do), which makes me not very supportive of them or their owner (at least their owner at the time when he came on line and made some ridiculous comments).

If you want to analyze salts, look into the Triton test results. There's a few around the net that basically let you see the salts makeup entirely.

I think I posted on the wrong post... LOL. Could have sworn I was somewhere else.

Most salts have surprising results. There's a few that have incredibly high numbers in a few areas, but people still defend them despite having zero evidence to back up their supposed harmlessness.. lol
