Hi - I’m an old guy but I believe you can teach an old dog new tricks. I’ve had freshwater aquariums for most of my life but would like to change over my 20” cube tank (35 gallons) to a FOWLR tank. I have spoken to the staff at my lfs and they tell me it certainly can be done. However I have one major concern. Because of my arthritis I am concerned that I might find the buildup of salt on the tank exterior too difficult to keep clean. Is this buildup common and if so, is daily cleaning needed? Or am I making a mountain out of a mole hill?

I get a little bit of it on my lid. It's so minimal I just knock it into the tank when I feed the fish occasionally. It really is the least of any work you would do with a marine tank

One factor to consider as well, do you plan on going with or without a lid, and if lid are you using glass or mesh top?

Mesh top and no lid will give you next to no salt creep. A glass lid can be a source of salt creep. Environmental conditions will determine how much or how little salt you see for your specific setup.
