Hey guys - another question for everyone...do I have an emergency brewing?

I noticed salt creep outside the tank on the bottom front corners. Its on each side - I had assumed it was from a drip from the lid that slowly built up. But after careful examination for the last 2 days it seems like some sort of seal failure from the bottom. I have been clearing off the salt and tonight it was still wet underneath

Tank is a basic 10g with the black plastic rim from petsmart.

Question - should I buy a new tank immediately? Fix the seal? From the outside? Could the tank just, well, "pop"?

Thanks in advance!

I would buy a new tank from pwtco this week!!! I think they are still having the $1 per gallon sale too ;)

Yes sir get a new tank! Go ahead and upgrade to bigger though since the sale is going on! HA!

On a tank as inexpensive as a 10g I'd err on the side of caution as well.

How often have you had your hand in the tank and had water droplets run down the glass recently? It doesn't take much water to sit in the rim to wick out as salt creep for a while.

thanks for all the fast replies everyone! Its much appreciated! I didnt know petco had the sale on again! I have work today and no petco close so im not sure if Ill make it there before thursday or friday.

I thought this may have been the case - I really was hoping this was all it was :( but I cleaned the rim then let it be - but came back to find more creep there. It was soggy underneath, between the black plastic rim and the glass.

think I have time to replace the tank? or should it be priority #1??

:) you've read my mind! I DO WANT to upgrade!

+1, can't beat a brand new 40 breeder for $40!

lol i hear ya! a 40b might be a bit too big for me though :)

In all seriousness, I want to go bigger, but im afraid of the cost of new lighting.

if I were to upgrade to a 20 or 29 or 30 (rectangle) - would a quad T5 fixture do the trick for a mixed tank like mine? I was also thinking of a 14g tall or something bc it has the same footprint and my light would work still (i think..I have a 2x20w T5 coralife fixture now)

if I went with the quad on a larger tank - this one is cheap:

  • thoughts?
  • should I just get another 10g?
  • my dual T5 coralife fixture (20inch) - how big a tank would that work on if I were to upgrade?
  • the quad fixture - ok on 20-30g?

moving livestock to new tank - advice?

hey guys - so I bought a new 10g - couldnt get to petco for $1/g sale :( Almost bought a 20g but couldnt afford lights...

so new 10g is set up at home - 15lbs of live sand - mixed up new salt water w/ Instant ocean and filled tank. crappy Aqueon power 10 filter w/ filter floss running till tank clears up.

so now I have to move everyone from the old to the new tank. best way to do it?

new tank is full of new water, but should I use water from old tank?

just pick up and move everyone in one fell swoop or slowly?

also - main rocks are epoxied together with coral all over them - again - just pick up and place in new tank or no?

any help/advice would be great - Ive never done a full tank transfer like this....

oddysea is junk. do not buy. if you want a decent affordable fixture look for a deep blue pro. this hobby is expensive no doubt about it. but if you skimp on your equipment it will only cost more in the long run when you have to replace it.

I figured as much and didn't go for it. Just got a new 10g

Completed tank transfer just now. Took out 5g, added rock, then added 5g from old tank. Added çorals, 2g water change..

Then added fish and inverts.

Epoxy broke :( hoping rocks stay up
