Salt Creep.

Hi there,
Does any one have experience fixing salt creep on Acrylic tank? I started seeing little separation at seams on my Acrylic tank. Hoping some one can advice me on how to fix it. Thank you and Merry Christmas everyone.

When you say the seams is this like the bottom seam? Front panel to bottom? Side to front?? If so sounds like on the verge of a serious mess

You shouldn't have salt creep in any of the seams.....I am not an acrylic expert but I can't imagine this is going to end well.

I wouldn't want salt creep at any seem of any aquarium. Acrylic and, I assume rimless, isn't going to end well in the long run without a reseal.

How do you reseam? And can you do that while it's still filled?

You can repair the seams using Weldon #16 acrylic glue, but the tank will need to be drained, cleaned and dried. If you are seeing salt creep at a seam, you need to move your livestock to another tank as quickly as you can, because the seam is about to fail.

Yikes, I would look into fixing it before things go bad. Like others have said, it will need to be drained and repaired from the inside. Can you see if the seem has areas of separation?

Wow, this is something you'd need to fix ASAP. ..

This could possibly let loose . Hold old is the tank?

Hope your able to fix this...albeit a hassle.

I believe it's about 3 years old. I bought it used and never thought about checking it. Something to learn from I guess. I hope so too, since my wife is unlikely to let drag another 180gallon tank home to replace this one :smile:
