I have a 30 gal rectangular tank, i have been thinking about getting a top for it, don’t really need one at the moment, have only 2 fish, both clown fish which have shown no proclivity to escape, but, with more fis, later maybe, but i’m getting a lot of evaporation, and salt creep around my light and hob filter, so was wondering what was the best type of top and the easiest to construct, thanks

Usually the kits with the frame and netting are the easiest. However if you need something more solid their are companies that make net tops with wide acrylic frames. They can make cut outs for your pipes, hoses, ect....

I started out with a glass top on my 125. I found that not only was the salt creep worse with the solid top, but it was much harder to maintain a constant temp. I bought the screen top kit from BRS (very easy to put together), but you can easily DIY it yourself. When the screens start to get some creep, I just hose them off in the shower. Takes about a minute. Just about any fish is a potential carpet surfer. I won't have any of my tanks uncovered anymore. Been there, done that. Just something to consider.
