What is the best salt to use for your tank? What do most people here use?
Just trying to get a general consensus.

search for it on here. Any major brand salt will do. Many use Instant Ocean. I am back to Reef Crystals personally because of price vs. parameters. $35 a bucket was too much to turn down when Fritz RPM was double locally.

This has been an ongoing question since I first came to this hobby back in the 90s. I would normally say it doesnt really matter. Back in the day, I would pay top dollar for Tropic Marin. It dissolved many times faster and more fully than Instant Ocean and b/c it cost so much, I perceived it to be better. Fast forward a couple decades and I now use IO b/c it costs less and I dont see a difference.
Having said that, I just replaced the head on my DOS unit tonight b/c it got beat down from all of the salt residue/precipitate of IO. With that in mind, I'm going to try RPM in order to get less residue and not have to deal w/clogged DOS lines.

Instant ocean is a great all around basic salt most people will use or will have used at some point, and is probably one of the cheapest. I personally use Red Sea coral pro. I like the higher amount of Calc/Alk is has. Their basic salt is not bad either, just has lower amounts of the previously mentioned.

I use esv salt mix. a little more work to measure out but your parameters are always spot on. plus no brown residue in the brute when done
