I'm about to start my waterbox 20 reef tank up and my fish only qt system set up. now i have plans to use the instant ocean for the fish only qt but i also brought esv salt for the reef tank. should i start my reef tank with instant ocean or just go straight with esv since it mixes clean and fast?

If you plan to use ESV in th waterbox long term just set it up with ESV now instead of switching over later.

You could do either, but my thought is why deal with the extra hassle of switching it over later.

I am not sure how close Instant Ocean and ESV are on parameters. Any of the major salts should be fine. The major differences between them are ALK levels and some have elevated Ca, Mg and trace elements for high demand coral tanks.

That being said, since you are thinking of going with ESV long term, you might as well start off with it. By the way, I maintain a quarantine tank. When I do a water change, I use the discard water from the Display Tank to make a water change for the quarantine tank.

Assuming you arent planning on stocking corals right away, I'd cycle with the cheaper salt personally.

makes alot of sense and thats what im going to do thanks for you're input

You're probably going to want to clean out your mixing container after using the IO, before switching to the ESV.
I know I would.

If you plan on performing regular water changes, then swapping over to ESV wouldn't be a hassle at all.

right that's what i was going to do. cause weekly water water changes is only 2 gallons a week and four gallons every two weeks. i brought the instant ocean and i just want to get rid of it and just use it up before i continue with esv

oh yeah of course and most likely ill change the bucket to avoid cross contamination

A quick wipe down would suffice.
