I currently use RSCP salt and am happy with it except I would like a salt that has alkalinity near what I run. I currently run my tank around 8.5 DKH. When I do my water changes I kill my doser for a night and it comes back to this range , but I don't like the spike. It's not huge as it goes up to 9.1-9.2. I target my calcium around 420. I even thought about buying the regular red sea and mixing them.

Any good salts that fit these parameters and don't take too long to mix like red sea?

You could use Aquaforest Reef salt. It mixes clear within 5 minutes at least for me and the last 6 buckets I have gone through.

Alk is a little low, trying not to have to add alk during water change

Though, I think it's kind of pricey but I use Tropic Marine Pro reef. @1.026 I get Ca 440-450, Alk 8.3-8.6, Mag 1350-1400. It too mixes fairly quick. Maybe more like 20-30mins.

I was looking at TMpro but there seems to be a lot of reviews of low alkalinity

If you like your Red Sea Coral Pro, why not try Red Sea Blue Bucket? Has lower alk that you're looking for and is in the same family, cheaper than Coral Pro as well.

I think there are some factors to consider in some of those reviews. One being an accurate salinity measurement. Another might suggest an improper mixing of salt prior to saltwater mixing. Plus, just like any other company you might get a slightly off bucket. But it does mix clean and has a good amount of potassium.

I've used TMPR for over two years now with no ill effects. Except one bucket had abnormally high amounts of magnesium. Didn't really bother the tank though.

Yes, or other products such as Seachem Acid Buffer (sodium bisulfate).
Good to know. Thanks

What do you think about doing a blend of RSCP and their regular??

A variety of folks mix salts for various reasons trying to get the parameters they want, and that's certainly a fine way to go. ;)

I was in your position not too long ago. On a recommendation I switched from RSCP to Salinity and really like it. Mixes well, has alk where i need it and the individual batches are tested by the manufacturer then printed on the bucket. One of my LFS's carries it and they have a great price at $65 for a 225 gallon bucket. While this doesnt matter much the buckets are great too for when the salts gone, larger with screw on lids.

I'm trying kent reef salt just getting back into salt after a 5 year layoff anyone else use it ?
