I've been thinking about switching salt mix, I've been using your standard Instant Ocean Reef Crystals since I've started the tank (2 years in August.. Yay!!) no problems, but I think I want to switch over to Red Sea Coral Pro, it's around the same price point, and I figure if it helps coral growth why not? Anyone have any thoughts on the two?

What makes you think the RS helps coral growth any more than IO?

The two salts, at least on the big three, are very similar. Their main difference is that Reef Crystals is a synthetic salt vs. the Red Sea Coral Pro which is processed natural salt. I personally would not do it because I could not justify any good reason to. Once you strike a balance in your reef and things are happy then if it ain't broke don't fix it :) You know how hard that balance is to get, why jeopardize it with no major gain? That was my main thought when I considered that maybe a "better" salt was warranted...

Just checking out youtube videos & the consensus I saw lead towards the Red Sea, I know thats like listening to Dr. "Google", so thats why I posted the question here

Thanks for the info, I thought maybe because one was processed different then the other, there might have been a difference, but it seems like there's none

For me, I am switching away from RC because of the high alkalinity. My corals are small frags right now(use very little dkh), so I am giving Neomarine a try.

I'm making the switch slowly at 1g pwc every few days.
