New member here, love this place.

Just finished building my 40 gal brute container salt water mixing station. What is best for salt mixing, a powerhead fixed to the side or an internal pump....or does it matter.?

It doesn't really matter. Just make sure to clean the pump out regularly. Whenever I mix salt, I pull the pump out once its done and rinse it in tap water. Sometimes precipitation can mess with the pump.

I use an open top barrel and have a couple jeabo powerheads just for this.
After I let them mix the water for however long I let it run, I drop the powerheads in a bucket of fresh water right away. Otherwise they tend to lock up.

I have a cheap like 20 dollar amazon return pump with section cups on the bottom, stick it to the side of the barrel and dump in the salt then toss it on the shelf when it's done, saves time cleaning and worrying about it because if it breaks I'll have a new one tomarrow for 20 bucks lol. This ones been going strong for 7 months.

I use EcoPlus adjustable flow pumps from Amazon. Cheap, has a ceramic shaft, and works for both mixing and pumping water out of the brute.

I use a cheap powerhead but I dont mix a lot of water at once usually. If I did I would still use the powerhead but I like the idea of a pump being able to pump out the water for me.

I bought a cheap pump.

mixes my salt! And pumps it from the brute to the tank that is 30ft away!

Rule inline 12v pump. cost less than $30

I use identical pumps to pump RODI water and mixed salt water up stairs: head is 25ft or so.

The easier and quicker you make water changes the more apt one is to do them.

Sicci Utility pump, kind of expensive but I do 38 gallon water changes so I think its well worth it.

I have a hose running from the pump to this to fill tank with. Also to adjust when mixing.
