This may be silly, but i use a 20 gallon brute container to fill and make my water with. I manage to nearly get all the water out of the bucket every time. This basically
Manages to get used in my next refill and so forth. Today I took my lid off and it smells a little strange. I know water brings mold.. but unsure if mold can come from saltwater? It looks perfectly fine; just starting to smell like a "sitting water" smell. Any problems?

I use the same barrel, but when I'm done mixing, making and water-changing, I rinse it out with tapwater, and dry it upside-down in the bathtub overnight. Not a fan of leaving wetness in enclosed spaces . . .

Shouldn't be a major problem in your case - I'd rinse it out before using it, though.

One of my mixing brutes has a smell too it. Hasn't harmed anything (yet). I always rinse it out and let it air dry when I'm done and it still has an odor to it, so I don't really think its an issue of wet or dry in my experience.

I had a similar issue as well and stopped using them. I noticed that my alk would drop and my water would get cloudy after about 12 hours. I've since switched to large hdpe blue barrels and have not had the same problem since.

I've researched this problem at great length and found a couple other people who experienced the same thing. According to these people it has something to do with the manufacturing process and the barrels had not fully curing. Who knows though.. most people use them without issue.

I have read about them leeching phosphates. But didn't know if a smell would be concerning. Could be like peopl say about leaving it with some water left over.. from here on out I'll just dump it
