They’re all similar. If you’re using your salt to maintain Cal/Alk/Mag, use the one that matches your tank. If you’re adjusting to match, you can use whatever you want. I use IO because it’s the cheapest and a good quality salt.
The salt is not a big deal. Any of the major kinds will work in a reef tank as far as I can tell.
Bulk Reef Supply has a video discussing the various salt mixes and ratings on them (which should be take with a pinch of salt).
There are salt mixes made for reefs (enhanced calcium, magnesium and maybe trace elements for hard corals). But again, many people do fine with just plain old instant ocean.
I have used instant ocean. It leaves a crud residue after mixing but muriatic acid removes it easily. I am now using Reef Crystals (less crud) but I am considering changing back to Instant Ocean.
I have thought of going with Trophic Marin Pro for the clean mixing and the pharmaceutical grade ingredients.
But as far as I can tell, what makes the difference is the reefer and their maintenance and salt mixes are not that big a deal.
