Saltgator's 240 Build

I drank the Vodka. Lol

Honestly I knew nothing about vodka dosing and I really liked the pellet method. Many in the local club had great success with pellets so I followed their advice.

Got ya. Just looking at proven methods. Plus I leave on vacation soon for a week and vodka is gonna need to be on a doser too

Yeah I hear ya. Pellets are set it and forget it. I don't need another doser going...
10-4. I might be getting into vodka or pellets atm, just not decided yet (no room in my sump or around it for a reactor but not looking for another doser either). I'll be making a decision by tomorrow and starting. Will be updating my battle weapons that I use too, so might get annoying if your Tapatalk goes off like mine does, lol.

Ryan or others, got any info on a zeolite reactor? Does it do magic or is it just like a bio pellet reactor?

I hear ya. I have been reading here and there. A local buddy offered to let me try his zeolite reactor, I just need to buy the media. From what I gather, it's another reactor that the media allows bacteria to colonize. Same concept as bio pellets, but you have to manually swish the media to get the bacteria into the water column.

They're pretty simple design, pump at the bottom and water flows up and out a 90 at the top. Your media sits in a little rack that will slide up and down to loosen things up. Kinda a different concept than a pellet reactor cause you don't tumble the zeolite, the water just flows through it.

Now I'm just rambling, haha, hope I kinda helped :)

it's always help coming from you Brett. I need help from all y'all, lol. So is there any benefit one over the other? I might give it a try, but it's a grey area for me I haven't ventured into.

Zeolites vs bio pellets or just the different reactors?

Are they the same concept? A buddy already has a reactor for me to borrow, just needs media. I tried bio pellets prior (you might remember), but also thought about your vodka method. Just need something set and forget for vacation times and because my job hours varies sometimes.

Kinda except the zeolites also absorb stuff on top of being a porous place for bacteria to colonize. They work well but should be a part of a system rather than used by themselves.

Vodka or vinegar on a doser is always an option but makes me nervous. If your just leaving for a few days here and there I would worry about it just not being dosed for those days and picking back up where you left off when you get back.

Regardless of the system you choose, go slower than the directions say and things will be smoother.

Here's a little reading on zeolites that may explain better than I ever could.

Thanks Brett. Any ideas on a way to keep nitrates down yet feed and grow coral successfully?

Just depends on you really.

Vodka/vinegar
Frequent water changes (depending on fish load)
Fuge with chaeto
Turf scrubbers
Bio pellets
Systems like Zeovit and ultra lith

All of these work in one way or another and some can be combined, just depends on what works for you and what your shooting for.

Still can't make my mind up on either bio pellets or vodka or vinegar. Bio pellets would be the set and forget method, but vinegar or vodka is a easy dose. Just wish I was comfortable dosing vinegar or vodka on a Doser. My local club is doing a GB on a new 4 pump Doser by Jebao!

I love their pumps and believe these will be worth the small amount (hint... it's only a few bucks more than one of the 1.1 dosers)
