Hello R2R.,

Thank You - All for your hospitality into the reefing club.

I have followed your advice - on investing on a RO/DI system. As your correct - tired of going to the store purchasing saltwater. also was not using proper DI water.

I would like to make my own mix. So Many to choose from.
  • Red Sea Coral Pro
  • Coralife
  • Oceanic
So forth what good also I'm on a 13.5 gallon tank right now.

I use Red Sea Coral Pro. Works very well. Elevated levels for the corals, mixes well and no residue.

I also use RS Coral Pro, and I think what you choose depends more on the water parameters you're trying to achieve than what others use. Coral Pro has relatively high alk for example, different from Aqua Forest and so you would choose it for corals that require high levels of alkalinity, whereas you might choose Aqua Forest for other types of corals, ones that don't need the same high level. Like much of this hobby, you should research your choices and get what is right for your particular set up. It may be easier to simply follow what someone else is doing, but that choice may not be right for you in the long run.
This said, oftentimes price is the most important consideration.
Good luck.

Instant Ocean or Reef Crystals is what many commercial coral growers use. It’s cheaper, and more cost effective. JMO, but spending $$$$ on expensive salt is like putting racing tires on my car, but I don’t race!

What's - a good water parameter range.

Scince I started in sept. 2017 created a spreadsheet check my parameters every 2 weeks...

Water Temperature 78 - 79 degrees.
33 ppt - 1.025 sg
CA 400
DKH 9.2
PH 7.6
Magnesium 1000

I use Red Sea Coral Pro for my main tank. Corals look great for me using Red Sea Coral Pro! Elevated levels means less 2 part. Also, it mixes very quickly (don't mix more than 4 hours per instructions) versus some (like Instant Ocean) say to mix at least overnight.

+1 for Instant Ocean, seems like it mixes very quickly. I switched to Fritz RPM a little over a month ago and it seems great.

I would go with Fritz or Live Aquaria salt. Red Sea is more expensive but all three will mix without that nasty residue.

Fritz RPM is very good. We use it on all our tanks and also recommend it. It's also less expensive than Red Sea.
