So my mixing station is in a large closet. Lights are almost always off, even when I do my mixing, because I usually have enough light from the attached room to tell what's what.

Well, I turned the lights in the closet on today, and was shocked to see a bunch of dark stuff floating at the top. I shined a light into the brute bin and saw signs of it on the walls of the bin as well.

So I'm about to dump out about $40 worth of saltwater - fine, lesson learned. What can I do to prevent whatever this is from growing, though? I've only had this thing filled for maybe two months, and it stays covered and dark 99% of the time. Maybe I just didn't clean it well enough when I first set it up?

Yeah, cleaning them out every few months is best to prevent growth. I have always had the slime growth but nothing that looks like what you show. Interesting.

What salt are you using?
