Saltwater Mixing Station in Garage?

Hi All,

I'm planning out my tank build and was wondering if you can do a saltwater mixing station in a garage. I live in TX and it can get pretty hot here (100+ Degree days). The Garage is insulated but has no AC. Would I need to worry about the water getting too hot in the summers? The size of the containers would be 44 G (likely Brute Trash Cans)

My other option would be the washroom, but my space is very limited there. The washroom also happens to be very close to the utlity sink and the garage so I thinking I could put my RODI unit in the washroom and just put in the hoses to the station in the washroom since the install is super easy in the washroom via a Y extender.

I have mine in the garage and haven't had any problems with it to the best of my knowledge. Here in Northern Alabama it doesn't get quite as hot but we have plenty of 100+ degree days.

Good to know . I forgot to ask if parking your car in the garage is an issue as well. Do you mix and fill from the container or do you mix, export to a container on a roller and fill up your tank?

We park one park in our garage right now.

My wife still parks in the garage. I just ask her not to leave the engine running long, even if the garage door is open.

My buddy had a whole frag system, water change, etc. in his garage and his corals were beautiful! Car didn't bother but he did run a chiller. Not sure if he needed it or not he just always has ran one.

I live in TX, too, and just had Ben Johnson at Captive Aquatic Ecosystems in the Houston/Woodlands area set up a mixing station in my garage. So far, so good, but I shared the same concerns as you did regarding temperatures.

The only drawback I could see with having a large volume of mixed water is the various minerals precipitating out of suspension and settling to the bottom. I have seen this happen a few times to some filled jugs I left in the garage for an extended length of time. If you install a small powerhead on a timer to stir the tank for a few hours that should take care of it.
