Saltwater Newbie

When I got my water and live rock, I was told just wait 30 days with having the light on. They never told me that I needed to test the water.

Well the 30 days is almost up, I have the water tested yesterday my levels were ok but calcium levels were low. So when I take out 20% of the water will is fill it with saltwater or RO water?

Water changes are done with saltwater.

Top offs are done with RODI water. When the water evaporates from the aquarium, the salt stays. Therefore you top off with RODI.

Thanks for the info Peter. So how often do you have to change the water? And what is the 2 part dosing process?
Water change 10% every week but thinking of stretching to 2 weeks due to rising costs of everything.

Need detail understanding of your ALk/Calc aquarium requirements before you can start dosing 2 part. Start weekly testing of NO3, PO4, Alk, & Kalk. When Alk/Calc start to deplete because of growing corals, then you start with the 2 part.

Two part are your coral essentials and determined by water testing. Change water 2x per month and you may not need to add Alk and CA
