I have a 32 gallon Brute trashcan for my saltwater reservoir. I only put RODI water and Instant Ocean Reef Crystals in it. I keep the lid on it when I am not getting water out. This lasts me about 1 month before I refill. I have rinsed and scrubbed it multiple times, but by the time I get to the bottom, it really starts to have a locker room, or smelly feet odor to it. Is that normal, what could be causing that?

Do I need to have circulation in my rodi reservoir also??? Same situation, it's in a 32 gallon Brute and that lasts about 1 month.

How big is your tank ? Why do you prepare your saltwater for a month in advance? If you're having trouble with keeping your salt water fresh, just mix it a day before your water changes ?

I would keep the salt mix moving if you’re storing it more than a very short time. As for the top off water it would depend if it’s developing any sort of biofilm or anything. If it is I would suggest storing less.

perhaps dose with this :face-with-rolling-eyes: :beaming-face-with-smiling-eyes::zany-face:

Supposedly you can use it anywhere and allegedly gets rid of foot odors and fishy smells :winking-face-with-tongue:

Seriously tho, I don’t think thats normal ,,,,I don’t think biologically inactive water should smell much

I am trying to store 1 month's worth of each. I have not seen a film or smell problem with the RODI. I will add a circulation pump to my rodi container. Thanks much!!!!

No need for pump in RODI. You need to keep the saltwater aerated and stirred up. Most salt mixes have a bit of ammonia in them, even if they do not say so, so they can make an environment where stuff grows if you do not. Besides, the pH will get all out of whack if you do not mix it.

I bought a UV/sponge filter for my 20 gallon mixing tank and it keeps the water crystal clear and no Odor.

Something like this
