If im planning a reef tank but getting the fish first and waiting a little, would using reef salt be bad for a fish only tank in the mean time?

It's not bad to use reef salt for a fish only tank, you're losing some money up front going with the reef salt but it's not a bad idea to pick a salt and stick with it for the life of the tank.

Which brand of salt are you speaking of?

In a perfect reefing world, sticking with the same salt throughout your time in the hobby is a nice idea. For the most part, this has been the case for me in using Instant Ocean Reef Crystals.

At one point, I did transition over to Red Sea Pro in hopes of seeing more growth. But it was a fiasco, and I ended up transitioning back. What I have found is that blending some Red Sea Pro in with Instant Ocean Reef Crystals has been an effective compromise.

In the end, if it isn't broken, my advice is not to fix it.
