Hello all, I posted this on another forum but didn't get anything definitive.

Help me think through something. Every day I happen to see something weird happen. For the first couple hours of the day everything typical looks good. The zoas are all open and everything is expanding. Then about 2-3 hours after all the lights are on I notice that everything at once tends to close up. The frogspawn and hammer don't react but the zoas, mushrooms, and anemone tend to close up or shrink. They stay shut or mostly shut for about 2 hours and then gradually open up.

My parameters are all where they should be. I'm assuming this is affecting growth over the long term. Ideas that were mentioned were a ph swing, but I tested this and don't see anything even remotely noticeable. Others mentioned that it is just the corals "waking up." Someone else just said this is normal and doesn't reflect anything concerning.

Any thoughts?

Sounds like it may be the lighting. What lighting are you using? Do they come on full or do you have them ramp up? If they are coming on full it might be shocking them untill they can acclimate.

Nothing abrupt is happening. I thought for a while that it may have been my heater as that stopped working early in the winter here. But this is still happening daily. The tank is at my office. The temperature of the office goes down a few degrees at night but the tank stays consistent.

The lighting was Marineland Reef Capable led light with an extra actinic strip light. That was up until 2 weeks ago. Now I have an Ocean Revive Arctic S026 light on it. I don't have it "ramped up" other than I have the actinics on for 2 hours and then the whites come on.

I agree with above post ..sounds like maybe the lights....I have my lights ramp up slowly over a few hours.. Does it happen after the whites come on?

If this is the case, why is it that they don't close up until 3.5 hours after the blue lights first turn on? I just have a hard time believing that.
