Sand bed too deep?

Hi all! I’m cycling a nuvo 15 and using Fiji pink sand. There are so many different answers online, maybe I can get a more specific one! Is my sand bed too deep? Maybe 2 1/2 - 2 3/4 inches. Thank you for any help

All personal preference. If you like a deep sand bed keep it

From my experience, a deep sand bed can be both good and bad. With sand that deep you will certainly have a anoxic layer on the bottom where denitrification will take place. Nitrates will be reduced. That is the good. The bad comes if you disturb that anoxic layer. If you do, methane and sulfur that will be trapped in that layer will be released into the aquarium and cause problems, and a horrible smell as well. so if you clean your sand, just clean the top layer.

It's perfect for wrasse that sleep in the sand, watchmen gobeis like the diamond watchmen and the yellow watchmen goby, jawfish, and sandsifting invertebrates like the sand sifting starfish.

It looks great, as mentioned place in sandsifting gobies, nassarius snails and conchs to keep it turned over and sparkling clean.

This is a nano tank 15 gallon no sand sifting gobby , no sand diving wrasse tank is too small.

Mine is similar... I have a Nuvo 15 as well. The pistol shrimp and watchman love it. So do the nassarius snails and conch. They all keep the sand pretty clean and turn it over.

Unrelated to your question but just wanted to mention it. Pistol shrimps are very messy in the sense that they like to move and rearrange the sand and rocks and anything that is on the sand is fair game to them. So I can't put corals on the sandbed and once in a while they cause a sand storm in the tank. But they are fun to watch.
