Ok, ph and alk numbers will be necessary to say for sure, but I'd wager high ph has caused carbonate to come out of solution.I have not tested ph in a long time. I have a home made dripper using Mrs wages.
Tank is 100 gallon reef thats been running for 9 months. I use a home made dripper with lime water ( Mrs wages pickling lime ). Early on my alk and cal were a little high, 10 dkh and 500 cal. I have dropped my alk down to 8 over the last couple months. Are you dosing anything for Alk? If so; how much for what size tank and with what in it?
Over-dosing Alk can cause it to precipitate out. One way this can manifest is that sand can bind together, causing it to "cake". You would have to have some serious over-dosing going on in order to get it to "concrete" I would think, but this is the only thing close I can think of...
It would likely help if you provided any details you may have on your tank. Size, population, equipment, chemical test levels that you have done, etc.
I do have my skimmer intake plumbed outside to fresh air. That combined with kalk maybe made ph too high??Ok, ph and alk numbers will be necessary to say for sure, but I'd wager high ph has caused carbonate to come out of solution.
No, its been that way for a while. Only thing I've really changed is lowering my alk over the last couple months but it was already concreted before I started.Could be a combo of things. Is the concretion recent? Anything changed recently dosing wise?
