stupid question can i use a filter sock in my sump and syphon back into the sump for cleaning my sand?

thank you im having a massive problem with brown algae my tanks 3 months old i brought a maxspect gyre to up the flow and done water changes and its still a problem gonna try cleaning the sand with a 200 filter sock .
ive also turned my lights down to 20%

That's actually how I clean my sump. Just make sure your return pump is keeping up with the extra water flow or you'll be cleaning you floor after the tank

ya my pump is running at 2000 ltr its on half power dd pro reef 1200

How many gallons is this tank total

asking because recirculation cleaning still circulates waste vs removed it, and complete cleaning of the sand works much better on the invasion and doesn’t cause a cycle. Gallons matters because all nanos can easily run a deep clean but a 200 cannot, gallons matters on invasion control options.

oh and i have liferock and about 2kg of live to try and speed up the cycle but ive had brown algae for 6 weeks just starting to see green .
i have my water tested at a shop and its always been spot on .

knowing the tank is pretty new/those details I fully agree the sock recirc cleaning is best because its fastest and matched to the tank age. once the sandbeds are years in place they tend to diverge into working really well or being a real headache and needing the deeper cleaning. its true that hundreds or thousands of reefers actively recirc clean using that filter method w the sump.
