I'm setting up my first saltwater tank and my water has been very cloudy from the time I put my water in due to the dust in the live sand I used, my question is, if I drain my water into a big plastic tote filtered with towels will that take out the salt at all.

Ok, good cause I don't have a way to measure the salt levels right now was hoping it'll be ok. I don't have any fish yet. But did have a few brittle star fish that hitch hiked on my live rock

Once the colonizing bacteria start growing and coating the sand it will settle like a rock. I never rinse the sand since it the the fine particles that support the most bacteria. Ride it out and it will be OK.

So far everything is looking good, finally got my ammonia down to 0, now waiting for nitrites to go down. Then hopefully I can add some fish. My wife is getting impatient, lol

I ran into the same thing. My wife told me that it looked great but, when do we get to see things swimming around? Put my first fish and coral in this weekend so it's coming along.

I went 2 weeks with no change in ammonia level, so I got a bottle of nitrifying bacteria and finally got it down

I used microbe lift nitrifying bacteria, says it for rapid reduction of ammonia and nitrites but the direction says use til ammonia is 0 but doesn't say if I need to use it to get nitrites down

And also, can someone tell me what this is. If it's normal. Look like hair all over my rocks
