Can I just take some sand from my display and use in a 20G QT or will that create too much of a spike? Thinking I'll only need a cup or two for a small coris wrasse.

You can put a small amount in a Tupperware container and put it in QT if you want, I never have and the wrasses do fine and curl up next to, or inside of my pieces of PVC!

I'd rather not use any if you guys think the coris would be ok with just pvc parts in the tank?

What type of wrasse are you describing? A yellow coris or a true coris such as a red coris?

Both would prefer sand but can do fine without, just curious.

Agree ^^ A Yellow coris will be fine without sand. However, if you want to put sand in the QT for him to feel more comfortable, then I would suggest using a small amount of new sand. I have a small 5lb bag of sand that I use for this purpose and just toss it after using it.

I personally only use dry sand (in a Pyrex bowl) for QT. I wouldn’t mess with the live sand in your DT, it smells nasty after taking it out of the water.
