Sand in frag tank switch to barebottom ? Help

I was wondering if i should take out all the sand in the frag tank and give it a good clean and re fill to make the tank bare bottom , Any opinions please.

I don't personally have a frag tank running, but I also have never seen a frag tank with sand in it.
