Sand in reefs

What do you prefer a reef tank with or without sand?

With if you don’t stay super on top of bb it looks messy to me

I prefer a small amount, about 1/2". I don't like to look at algae and grunge between the glass and the sand. Too deep and if you attempt to stir it up there may be contamination issues.
