Sand in sump

I have about 3/4” of sand in my sump and I was thinking about removing it. Any tips on if I should remove the sand and how I would go about doing it. Tanks been up for 2 years.

If you've been cleaning thoroughly, should be ok to take out in good sized portions over a couple of weeks. Need to let bacteria stabilize and repopulate. If you haven't and it's loaded up with detritus and microfauna....go much, much slower.

BRS thought they went slow enough removing their sand in the 160 and still caused major destabilization.

Is there a reason to remove it, I'd prob just leave it in there.
