In my 90 gallon setup I am using a Pro Clear model 125 wet/dry filtration system. Recently the water became very cloudy. I checked the sump and could see sand in there. How did the sand get to the sump? Should I remove the sand and if so is this the reason my water is cloudy?

This is a fairly new tank, 2 months.
Thanks,
Tom Bradshaw

I'd not only leave it but add more personally. Some sand will get air bubbles stuck to it as algae grows on it and it can become boyant and will go through the plumbing. Regarding the detritus that collects in sumps here's a paper that puts it in a good light.
