Running an IM25 Lagoon, SPS dominant, dosing concentrated kalk a 500 ml per day for last two months. Alk is 8.0 and calcium at 440.

I am noticing my top layer of sand is crusting,

Is this just an expected byproduct of kalk, or something I should be concerned about?

Thanks!

Do you have a pic by chance? Mine used to get crusty too, I just broke it up when I did water changes to help siphon off the sand bed but I noticed it happened less and less when I started adding more critters to stir my sand bed. Snails, conchs, even fish. I'm curious to see what others have to say but I personally never worried about it.

I don’t really worry about it as my wrasses love stirring it up with my snails and other CUC.
It may be an issue however I’ve never seen ill affects of it in my reefs.

I do have a dragon goby, stirs things up a bit... I guess there are just some places he misses...

Still, I am concerned with the accumulation of what I can only assume is carbonate...

Does two part have this issue?
